I put them in my boxes several years ago. I know red helps at night and have all of my dash lights red. I thought maybe you kept them on so you wouldn't step on a rod in the dark. I wear a light on my cap bill at night to retie baits.
BTW: I saw my first led blinger on Stockton at night. I was a mile away and his set of blue lights looked like a party on the bluff where he was fishing. It so happened that he came in to the ramp just behind my partner and I. His boat looked like a floating Christmas tree. Strips of red lights then blue lights then green lights then blue lights then white lights on the side visible to me. It was so bright that my partner couldn't see how to place the trailer on the ramp. The guy was very proud of them as he kept them on all the time that they were putting away the equipment and wiping down the boat. I believe I could have read a newspaper from my seat in the boat if I'd been so inclined.
