I've been told by one or two Yamaha techs that the motor I have is a favorite of guys who like to hot rod the Yamaha 150s. Maybe some day I'll be able to do some tweaking to this one.

You guys not worry about screwin up your motors when you hot rod em out like that? Ive not got alot of experience with outboards, but i do dirt bikes. Every bored out or souped up bike i ever saw either had a short life expectancy or had to be worked on continously.

That's actually a really good question. You're probably right to a degree. But then most people who tweak their outboards do so with the expectation of constantly playing with it.

@bullet20dc What's your opinion on this subject? Just curious.

you play you're gonna pay.   I guess it just depends on what each person is looking for his rig to do.  Go fast or reliabilty most of the time u cant have both.  I was into 225 pro max's for a while and tweeked the crap outta them to get ever mph I could find  It cost a bundle but while I was in that mood back 10 15 years That Bullet was one of the fastest around. But I did have to work on it almost every time I ran it. And yes You tweek past mfg specs you will break em.  Out boards are simple motors and work great out of the box but EVERY 2 stroke  again EVERY one will blow up eventually.  Some will last a long time most wont. but thats a fact of 2 strokes.  Picture running your car/truck (4 stroke)  in first gear at 6000 rpms for say 200 hours. I seriously doubt it will last very long but 2 strokes can and do do it every day everywhere.  That is if you leave em be Manufacturers go thru a HUGE R&D program to find that happy medium of max performance and max reliability.  Its a delicate balance, u mess with it you're giving up one or the other and if you have no clue you can sacrifice both.  Now that Ive mellowed a tad and dont have the reflexes to do 85's 90's I built a nice 250XS  It does what I want to do and still has a little left in her when I get twitchy or some smart azz thinks he gonna pass a Bullet Not sure who's saying Yammies are the choice motor to mod but  I tell you what  parts are not only VERY expensive and year specific for them they are also VERY hard to get.  I dont know many folks in the business that would agree that yammies are the choice to play with but I do know they make a nice motor My opinion is LEAVE IT BE  use stock parts and really good oil
