One other way I didn't see shown that is quite prevalent in the Mexico big bass lakes (El Salto, etc.) that the guides there promote is using the o-ring with a wide-gap hook - it's amazingly snag resistant  because the hook doesn't turn point-down half the time, it's parallel to the stick - it works great!
