First Tourney This Weekend!
« on: April 07, 2017, 08:58:27 PM »
My first club tourney is this weekend!

I so can't wait to get out there and swing some bass over the side of the boat again  (giggle)

Looks like it'll be windy this weekend, so we'll see how it all goes.

Either way, it'll be good to get back out there and compete again  :nod:

@Jig Man Thank you!
@frugalangler Congrats!! Great job  :thumbup:

It was so tough out there yesterday!! The wind was already blowing 7-10 MPH at 6 AM when we were launching. And the air temp was only about 40  (fp)

But I had a plan and stuck to it. And it worked  (yes)

The weights were really low with the conditions we had, and there were only two of us with a limit, but I was one of them. And it was enough for the win.

I bagged 5 bass for a winning weight of... ready for this? 6.93 lbs. and 1st place!  (giggle)

I caught all of my bass (7 of them and two lost fish) on a spinnerbait and a bladed jig that I had made specifically for this tourney. I'll give more details in my fishing report when I post it later on.

It was windy the entire day, from the very moment we started fishing. And let's just say that the wind was blowing so hard that I almost lost my balance a couple of times when the gusts hit me and caught me off guard. Not from the boat rocking, but because the gust was so strong!

I spent the majority of the day leaning into the wind! I got some video with my HD cam that shows how hard it was blowing, so I will post that later in the week.

Anyway, it sure was good to get back out there, catch some fish and compete with my fellow club members  :nod:

Here's a short little video I put together to show the wind and waves during the tourney! Still working on the location of my cam, so the angle isn't the best. But it definitely shows how bad the wind was.

Thanks Jack! This lake usually takes 15-17 lbs. to win every year. So we were all a bit disappointed with the weights. But under the conditions I wasn't too surprised. I kept hoping for one big bite, but it never came.  (nope)

Just happy to have pulled off the win to start the year off  :nod:

People always think us Southern folk have the big fish.   All my Northern buddies seem to always catch bigger sacks than we do!

New England undoubtedly has some seriously good bass fishing. No, we don't catch a ton of 8 lbers. like Florida or Texas, but it's not uncommon to need between 15 and 18 lbs. to win a 5 fish tourney. That's some pretty good quality in my book  :nod:
