On-Board Charger
« on: April 25, 2017, 03:43:32 PM »
My house got struck by lighting Saturday night and it pretty much took out everything in my house with a circuit board.  (computers, TV's, alarm system, Directv, garage door openers, golf cart charger, and a lot of other things)

Had my boat plugged in charging when it happened (I normally always leave it plugged in, wont anymore).

So it took out my onboard charger which was a MK 330D 3 bank and every fuse attached to it.

Since I am having to replace it anyone have any suggestions on one?  From reading looks like MK Precision series is better than the digital series I had.

I had a Dual Pro for many years.  It was a fine unit.  I now have a Genesis it too is doing quite well.

@JackJ Sorry to hear about what happened  :crying:

Check with your insurance company. It should cover this stuff.

I've had this Dual Pro charger in my boat since it was new in 2008. Not a single problem at all.

Oh, and I always unplug my charger once the batteries are fully charged. I used to leave it plugged in 24/7, but stopped doing that a few years back.

And... if I know there's a thunder storm on the way, I will always run out to the garage and make sure it's unplugged.

Yeah Curt, I would, unfortunately I have a $500 deductible on the boat.
When I married and moved into my wifes house with her, I never even thought to look over her home insurance, and she had a $2600 deductible on the house :(

+Ive had 2 CSI (dual pro) now for over 15 years  no problems at all with it except when I changed over to gel batteries.  I had to send it in to get the unit reconfigged to a diff charging rate.   They are quite heavy tho and I have removed them from onboard and cabled them to hang on the wall when charging.  saved about 50lbs on board.  My next system will be a genisis 4 bank unit  wneh they come out with it. way lighter and am told they are really good units.
