Trolling Motors (by brand) > Minn Kota Trolling Motors

First time out with my new MK Ulterra

(1/2) > >>

Jig Man:
I got it put on Friday am.  I picked up the boat and headed down to Stockton Lake to give it a test run.  The guys at the shop had pared the motor and heading compass.  All I had to do at the lake was calibrate the heading compass and do the keep off set so the spot lock would be "spot on"

The motor was great.  I played around with the foot control and the remote.  So far they both performed well.  I think I like the remote better then the foot control.  I did not have a lanyard so I could not hold it and fish at the same time so I had to lay it down to cast.

My biggest problem was hitting the "go button" without looking at the foot control.  I have used a MG so long that it is just muscle memory to put my foot on the right side for the button.  After an hour or so I hit it more than missed it.  The motor is quiet and powerful.

I did not have my charting unit with me so I could not try out a bunch of wpts.  I do know the exact location on one brush pile so I pulled up on it and hit spot lock.  It worked like a charm.

My only regret is not having done this sooner.

Nightmare:
Glad to hear you like it!

Jig Man:
The holiday is gone and hopefully most of the pleasure boats along with it.  Now I can get back on the water and work on the learning curve.  My wife wants to see it in operation so I'll wait until this pm to go when she gets back from her weekly volunteer work.

Curt:
Glad to hear that you like it so much!!

I know that the MG vs MK TM debate is ages old, but I have owned both brands and am a diehard MK user for life.

Let us know how it goes in the coming weeks!

bullet20dc:
deffinitly a learning curve with them but once you get her dialed in youre gonna like it.
