Spot lock jog
« on: October 26, 2019, 05:40:50 PM »
I use spot lock a lot but had not used the jog function until this week.

I was fishing with a strong wind about 45° off my port side.  I came to an area that gave up a couple of bites so turned the boat into the wind and set the spot lock so I could cover the area better.

After I was ready to move I decided to try the jog function.  It moved the boat 5 feet then reset.  I did this for about 1/2 mile.  If wanted to move more all I had to do was hit the direction arrow twice.  I was able to fish without doing anything to control the boat.

It also can go forward and backward.  Greatest thing since sliced bread.

Nice when you pay good money for something that actually functions the way you expect it to, huh?!  (yes)

@Jig Man That's really awesome! Can you refresh my memory as to which TM you have? Is it the Ultrex?

No.  I have the Ulterra.  I bought it because it will stow and deploy by itself.  I have ipilot link along with Humminbird Solix units.

What can I say Jack, I’m too old and beat up to pull the rope any more.  This Bird/ MK world is the best I have come across.  With all of the functions I can pretty much point it set something and just fish.  There are so many features that I can only process a few at a time.  I had never used the jog function before.

That's really good to know

I would never be able to run the TM you have on my boat. The lakes I fish are way too shallow and rocky for it.

I have to have a TM with a mount similar to the Maxxum or Fortrex that will give and flex when I hit an obstruction. My fear of the Ulterra and that kind of mount would be destroying it when I crash into a rock after dark.  (fp)

I know it isn’t for everyone but it sure has added some time to the tail end of my fishing.

If it works for you, that's all that matters!
