Ah the good old A-rig debate.   (fp)

I'll start.

You dern skippy I fish them. They are just another tool to catch fish and during the winter months its one of my go-to baits.  (yes)  (yes)

What say you?

It isn't for me, but I will throw it if they are eating it.

I love the thing.  Here in MO we are only allowed to have 3 baits so I use blades on the other two and blades on the arms sometimes.  I make my own and have several combinations of blades.  It is a lot more fun to fish them in the winter than it is Float N Fly.

I have never tried them, but have a couple in the boat to try this spring.  Not sure how to rig them and what to use, but figuring that out is part of the fun!

I have a couple in the boat and have used them on a few different bodies of water. There have been 2 tournaments that stand out in my mind, I ended up winning both because of an A-Rig. Everyone else struggled to get a limit or fish of any size.  The kid who was fishing with me couldn't believe it.

Having said that. Do I think they are a bit over kill...  (yes) However I enjoy fishing them. So guess I'm a flip flopper on this topic.  (hmm)

I own one and have tried it maybe a couple times, with no results.

I know they do catch fish, but haven't put enough tie into it to see that happen yet.

Maybe on the bigger reservoirs that would be true, but here in RI & CT it's not as big of a factor, since we're fishing smaller, shallower, weedier natural lakes.

I still want to give it more of a chance this year, maybe  (hmm)

Here is a picture of my junior skooly rig. Head weighs 3/8 oz and wire size is 035. Sell the fool out of these along with my HD Skooly Rig. Head weight on my HD rig is 1/2 oz and wire size is 040. Guess I have sold some where around 6000 rigs sense I first got into these things.

Yeah I use em, haven't caught anything myself but people fishing with me have so I will keep trying, who knows maybe one day I'll catch a fish with it.

I know it's a workout.

I would agree with that. I also would point out that I think their effectiveness is somewhat limited to the winter months. Not saying they won't work year round, but think they excel in colder months.

Coach is right on about it being a cold weather bait. It is so effective in winter tourneys on LOZ that you can't win without it. Certainly leveled the playing field between a good angler and a bad one. Even an idiot can catch winter bass with it.
Ozark angler and proud of it!

@Lockon

The A - rig has done pretty good on Bull Shoals, at least for my cousins.

Also the clown Jerk  bait works good this time of year. Wiggle wart too.
What club you fishing with?

We own 4 or 5 of them in different configurations.  The first time I convinced myself to throw it was 2 years ago in June.  I caught 5 largemouth on 3 consecutive casts.

My wife refused to throw it because of the weight, the baitcasting reel and the flippin' stick I was using to lob it out there.  So last spring we got her a little Picasso rig she can throw on her spinning reel.  She caught 3 largemouth on 5 consecutive casts the first time she used it.

Now remember, this is in Ohio where we have a 3 hook limit!  Heck yeah we use it.  It is our early morning bite go-to 100% of the time on our home lake.
