Thermocline Rule

(1/1)

Wizard:
Bass will go below the thermocline if forage is present. If there is enough oxygen for the shad, there is enough for bass. However, once bass feed, they return to thermocline depths. So, if you pass over a large forage school below the thermocline, look to see if bass are to the sides or actively feeding. I fish deep water lakes and you southern gentlemen that fish skinny water won't see this happen.

pondhopper424:
I fish strip pits and they go 70’ deep in places. During the summer months the first thing I do is set the dept finder sensitivity very high to find the thermocline. I turn it back down and don’t use it again until the sun is high in the sky. When I get worn out from punching weeds I will go deep hunting with a ¾ to 1 oz jig.
