New lure just finished
« on: March 04, 2015, 12:38:00 PM »
Just finished a ca. 1913 "Moonlight Dreadnought" remake. I want to start making some lures from the early 1900's just for fun. This is the first so look for more!

Here is a couple more shots of the bait. The last is a wooden box that fits the bait very nicely and the lure is balanced on a wire I formed for it.

Wow!  I love that.  When you decide to sell it let me know.  It would be a blast to collect them.

Jake it is for sale, unfortunately it is $100. I know that is a ton of money but the complexity of making it stops me from asking less. I understand if you think that I am out of my mind but it was much tougher to make than I thought. I will be forced to ask that for it if I make anymore. I am working on some of the older 5 hook top water baits now so I will post them when I finish them.

Mike, that's not unreasonable at all.  Do you intend to sign and/or date them, at least on the custom box?  Seriously those are works of art and as the artist you will add value to collectors.

How long is the box?  How long is the lure? Is the box designed to hang on the wall?  Is the opening in the top of the box a hole or have glass over it?  Sorry for all the questions, but I'll have to explain everything to Judy when I write the check.

Jake,
I do sign and date all my lures, but if someone wanted the box signed instead I could do that. The box measures 6 1/4 X 4 5/8 and is 3 3/4 tall. The lure measures 5 in. from one eye to the next. I wouldn't hang the box from the wall but it could be set on a shelf. The opening in the box is glass and there is glass all the way around except for the bottom. I am meeting with a buyer of a large sporting goods store here in Calif. next Wed. so I will need to hold on to it till then if you intend to buy it. Or you can wait till I finish more. You would be guaranteed number #1 either way. I am posting pics of the other lures I just finished here in a minute.

Not unreasonable. We pay $50 for bull shad swimbaits.

@TrinityLure The "Moonlight Dreadnought"  arrived today safe and sound. Right now it is displayed in our foyer underneath a tackle painting and a bamboo boat rod that I refurbished and mounted on the wall with an old Shakespeare reel that belong to my Dad.  I'm debating whether to leave it there or take it to the office where I will actually get to see it more than at home.

Love it!  Thanks.

Rick,
I 'm glad you really like your lure. This is the real reason I make them. It has never been about the money,(that was just gravy) it has always been about the making of the lure and hoping someone else enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it. Keep in touch.
