LSS 2
« on: March 21, 2015, 09:32:50 AM »
I brought a touch 7 bundel and was looking for suggestions on where to mount the LSS 2. I was thinking about mounting it on my jack plate. Is that good or would you mount the unit elsewhere?

Jack Plate is the best place for it. They make several different brands of mounts and they coat a nice penny or two.

Does your JP have a hole shot plate on the bottom of it?  If it does that's the best place for it, as close to the center line as possible.
Sometimes if you mount them on the side of the JP your unit will get some "Ghost lines" from the sonar waves bouncing around the inside of the JP. With mine I HAD to install a hole shot plate for mine to work right.

No, I don't have the plate and I don't think Bob's Hydraulic Jack plate sells it.
I did buy the kit to install on the side of it then I heard not to mount there. I just wanted to make sure. Guess I'll just install the unit under the transom. I  just don't like drilling holes into the boat if I can help it.

I drilled mine…well Jimmy drilled mine and I watched in the bilge to make sure we didn't drill through anything important.  Then I sealed the mount top and bottom with 3M 4200 and let that cure for several days.  It's not gave me a seconds problem and has a clear shot out both sides.

The bottom of my jack plate has an L shape going back toward the center of the boat.  I drilled and tapped, used the mount that came with it and put a couple of ss screws.  It's been holding there for 4 years now.

Threads like this one are an awesome example of what this site is growing into.

I know it's great and a lot of fun to hang out and BS together. I think that's one of the big things that a lot of people miss out on when they rely on social media for their info.

But, ultimately, the questions and answers part is what adds value to a site in the long run. And as we grow and more new people come aboard, valuable info like this is becoming more and more common.

Keep up the great work, guys  (y)
