Humminbird Interlink
« on: January 25, 2015, 02:21:48 PM »
Has anyone here setup the Humminbird Interlink system with their units?

I have a 788 and 798 that I'd like to network. Any feedback for me on the installation process or how well it works once it's setup and working?

Pics of the install would be awesome. Thanks in advance :)

I have mine linked with an ethernet cable if that is what you are talking about. Jimmy did the setup on mine. He can probably give you some tips. @Jimmy RodandReel

Because I have units that are a bit older, I can't use Ethernet for one of them. So I have to buy the Humminbird Interlink unit and network them that way.

@Curt   @Bullet3119  ........I'm not real up to speed on the HBirds. It would be a 50/50 shot if any info I give you in correct.
Now installing is a piece of cake for me. For whatever reason I have always been good with stuff like this. Plus I demand perfection when I'm working on something.

I have used the interlink on my older units. That was before I updated to the 898 units. I used the interlink for two of the 790 7C twos. And also allowed me to use my matrix 37 if I wanted to switch units.however it does not exchange much information. It does allow you to use the GPS but it will not share the map.

My goal is simply to share waypoints between the two units. I have hundreds of waypoints in my bow unit but only a handful in my console unit.

@Curt I have had my interlink for years and it has been great! I have even swapped out units and as soon as you plug in it downloads everything to the new unit.

@vision 200 Thanks for the info.

I found the unit I need on the HB website. It's made specifically for older units like mine, that don't have ethernet (788CI & 798 CISI). I guess my main questions/concerns are with setting it up and configuring everything.

curt , I used to have a 797 with side image and a 997 with side image. I had them configured with an interlink. I had the 997 on the console and the 797 on the bow. I mounted the interlink up under the console on the rear wall of the front rod locker . It was up under the helm. It worked well. On my units each had an option to select to participate in the network. When I selected each of them to participate fully it shared waypoints with both units. It was a nice setup and once you get it up you will like it.

@getfished Thanks! I've been wanting to do that for a couple years now, but it always seems like there's something more important that needs to be done and takes the money. Maybe this year will be the year that I can make it happen  (hmm)

I have interlink and use those same 2 units. I did all my own install. I even added an SI ducer to both locations so if I choose I can swap head units in order to get SI at both the bow or the console

@Curt I just saw your post.  If you haven't bought the Interlink yet, I have one which I can sell you, with cabling, for a lot less than the $200 they want at the Humminbird site.  I upgraded but had used it to connect two 788c head units.

I had my dealer do the install so I have no tips there, but it can't be too hard.  There are only 3 inputs to the interlink: 2 head units and one GPS antenna.  I think there are instructions on the Humminbird site.  Send me a PM if interested and we will work out the details.

Jake
