Title: Maybe you'll already know this
Post by: Jig Man on September 17, 2016, 02:24:41 PM
I'm part of the Shimano posse and use only their reels.  My bait casters are Curados of various speeds.  I had a couple that weren't casting as good as I wanted so I took out the spool bearings soaked, cleaned and relubed them.  They cast better but were still making a bit of noise.

So I thought that I would clean the brake drum.  I test cast them in the yard a few times and got the average cast length.  Then I sprayed some NAPA silicone on a Q Tip and ran it around the drum a few times.  When I test cast them again both of them would cast about 15 reel handle revolutions farther and they were more quiet than before.  I think that must relate to about 25-30 more distance which should help me in open clear water.

Whoda thunk it.

Thanks for the tip. It's amazing how little things like this can make such a big difference
