Anyone using one?

Not using the Tatula, but I've herd good reports from a couple folks that have them that I know.
I have numerous other higher end Diawa reels and they are great. My favorite is the Alphas, it's a Japanese only model finesse reel - it's the only one I've seen that can cast a 1/16oz ned rig - most people have to use a spinning reel which is way less accurate.

Yeah I really like the Alphas and the Pixys. I saw someone selling the Tatula type R for $129 on eBay and thought I would pick one up.
I actually threw a Ned rig the other day. I was using a 1/10oz and could sling it a mile on my Lews Tournament Pro. They really sail through the air since not much wind resistance.
Even though I caught over 60 on a shakey head, I could not get a single bite on the Ned rig, but I will keep trying it.

As a member of the Shimano posse I am not allowed to use one of them.
However, the Ned or a version there of has been one of our main presentations for a long time. The Charlie Brewer slider is a very good bait especially if you do swim twitch.

@Jig Man I've watched that video in the past. Every time I watch it, I say I will give the Ned Rig a try. But then when I try it, I never get bit. I will keep trying, though.
I think my biggest problem is that I fish a lot of waters where the bottom is covered with weeds. It's really rare to find a hard bottom lake here with no weeds.

Curt it is primarily a highland reservoir method where we don't have vegetation. I'm not surprised that is isn't working for you. It works here for all three of our black bass, white bass, crappie, and sometimes walleye. But the lakes I fish don't have a blade of grass in them. We have limited standing timber, gravel and rocks.

I have a bunch of the first models that came out and they are an absolute workhorse. They are a little bigger and sit taller on the rod than alot of others. But if you have bigger hands like me you wont even notice it. Diawa has come out with the Tatula CT which is a compact version but I have not had the chance to try one.
The Type Rs you can find online for $130ish is in my opinion one of the best bangs for your buck to be had. The T wing system is no gimmick either. You will find that you can cast further with the T wing.
I bought a Lews for the same price to try it out and took it back and traded it on another Tatula type r. No comparison.
Last I checked I had about 10 Tatula's type Rs so yeah I like them!
They are also releasing the Tatula CT SV at the Classic. The SV spool is really something special espicially for lighter baits.
Diawa has really come out swinging the last few years when it comes to reels and technology. Dont be afraid of the price tag. When they first came out they were right at $199.

@Jig Man That's pretty much what I figured. I have no doubts that it might work here in some situations, but keeping the weeds off is a pain in the butt.

Thanks @sbg . The type R will be my next reel I do believe. I broke my favorite rod last Thursday so I need to replace that also.

Tackle warehouse put them on sale today so I just ordered one.

I received the reel Friday and used it Saturday. I probably caught 50 bass on it.
All I can say is Wow! What a smooth reel.
Even the high school kid that backlashes nearly every cast was able to throw it without backlashing. \o/

I need to get one of those for a guy I take fishing sometimes. He is king of the backlash when using is own equipment. He never backlashes when he will use one of my Curados.
