I think I remember Charlie saying that when you change the lower unit oil on a torquemaster you use 28 ounces. Not until the fluid comes out of the top hole. But I cant remember for sure. Thanks!

yep 28 oz however at 28 oz it wont come out the vent unless u didnt allow it all to drain completely. I have tried an experiment to fill it till it comes out the vent and it took over 32 oz. I just put in what the merc manual says 28 oz. Been doing that for more years then Ill admit to so it works. remember if you use synthetic Dont reuse the o ring seals. and keep an eye on the oil. pop the bottom plug every once in a while and see if you have water intrusion. synthetic doesnt mix as well with water as dyno oil and will come out clear. Dyno oil comes out like coffee with milk color. believe it or not synthetic will give you a few more 100 rpms but way less forgiving with any water in that lower. Royal purple amsoil or lucas are brands I been using with good success. Not dropping brands here just a statement.

So synthetic would be ok to use? I was gonna go back with the 90 weight gear lube plus from Mercury. Thats what Ive been using but am always open to suggestions about other brands. Ive been using amsoil 2 stroke synthetic engine oil with great results so far.

I've got my Yammie torn down right now for a water-pump, and when I put it back on I'll be going w/ synthetic - of all the years I've never tried it so maybe now is the time. That may be the couple hundred RPM I'm looking for.

I hear the synthetic trick only works on Mercury........there's no hope for dem hammer motas anyway. (giggle)

There is no hope needed, eh, because when I HAMMER down on the yammer, it just goes!!!!! Yea, it's a new experience but it's still a BLACK motor!!!

I believe, not sure, that yo-mamma 2 stroke lowers are merc built lowers i seem to remember someone telling me that a while back. Never really researched it tho

I'd agree with that as the parts I have for the pump and the style are dual part #'s - both merc and yam printed on the package. The style is so similar you'd almost say they copied if not OEM'd by merc

no they will bolt on but wont perform right ok for a spare but my opinion is go with a prop built for the yo-mamma top end
