Title: 587ci HD
Post by: Jrsmith_80 on March 12, 2015, 03:14:46 PM
Any tips on setting up this fish finder??  It is in its default settings right now.  I'm happy with the way it works but feel that I'm not using it to its full capabilities.  Thanks in advance!!

If you will go to humminbirdsideimaging.com you can pretty much get any info and image interpretation you can possibly come up with.
Real good site.

Awesome, thanks!!  I just spent about 2hrs reading the manual online for the 2nd or 3rd time. Good info but it skips around a lot, and you start to lose track of what you were reading about.

I hear that.
Yep that site can help you big time and they get to your posts pretty fast too.
You can also read through some and probably find your answers.
You will have to go to the 598 section but it's all there.

I think one of the biggest problems with buying the latest fishfinders is getting overwhelmed with learning them. They have so many features that it can seem almost impossible to learn them all.

Start out with it in default mode and then try to learn one or two new features at a time, getting used to those particular features before moving on to the next feature or two.

And in lieu of trying to read through the owners manual, which will also overwhelm you, try downloading the PDF version of the owners manual and printing out only specific pages or sections for the features you want to learn and taking them out on the water with you and walking through each feature until you get comfortable with it.

And, lastly, keep in mind that you will probably forfeit some fishing time while you're learning the new unit, since it's hard to fish and concentrate on learning at the same time.

So definitely use the forums mentioned by @ranger361v, but don't suffer from info overload while doing it  (nope)

Yes.i agree with Curt.
I don't know how much time I spent trying to get a handle on mine.that is all I did quite a few times.

But that site can definitely help getting it set up properly and interpreting what you are seeing.
