Title: Cup Holder Installation
Post by: Curt on March 10, 2020, 08:44:16 PM
Tonight was cup holder installation night!

This was a bit of a hairy installation, since it required me to cut a large hole in my deck  :o

Step 1 - Mark the outline and drill a pilot hole.

Step 2 - drill a larger hole.

Step 3 was to cut the hole, and then file it to get it just right. Then I slid the cup holder down in, where it fit nice and snug.

And here's the view from a bit further back.

Glad this is done! I still might install one more back at the console, next to the other one that's already there. We'll see.  (hmm)

Curious as to how the cup holder is retained in the hole, if there's a couple spring-loaded tabs or what-have-you so the thing doesn't get bounced or sucked out of the deck.

Also wondered if there's a drain hole in the bottom someplace I can't see....

Kinda wondered what kinda magic fit that cup in the last hole shown but I'll let you hold onto that secret.  (giggle)

It DOES appear to be a nice clean installation.

Just good old friction. The hole was cut so that the cup holder fits pretty tightly. If I do run into problems with it loosening up, I have access to it under the deck, so I can put a hose clamp on it that would be snug against the underside of the deck. The other option would be to put a small pop rivet in it in two places, inside of the cup holder itself, so the rivets stick out under the deck and prevent it from working its way up and out of the hole. Either way, I'm not too worried about it  (nope)

Yes. it actually comes with a nipple on the bottom so I can attach a tube to direct the water wherever I want to, but I just made sure the hole was clear and I will let the rain water drip down into the hull and make its way back into the bilge to be pumped out.

It's a special kind of magic called blood and sweat!  (giggle)

Thanks! I'm nit-picky!! So I try to do everything neatly and as precisely as possible. My favorite saying is "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right".

@Nightmare here's a pic of the drain hole.
