Title: Wide Gap Worm Hooks
Post by: Curt on October 26, 2018, 08:07:14 PM
Just wondering what everyone here likes to use for worm hooks for various soft plastics.

For general fishing I always use Eagle Claw Wide Gap worm hooks (https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Eagle_Claw_Lazer_Sharp_Wide_Gap_Worm_Hook_6pk/descpage-ECWGW.html?from=nebass). They're sharp, reasonably priced and they just plain work well.

(https://img.tacklewarehouse.com/watermark/rs.php?path=ECWGW-BLK-1.jpg&nw=302) (https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Eagle_Claw_Lazer_Sharp_Wide_Gap_Worm_Hook_6pk/descpage-ECWGW.html?from=nebass)

I also like that they're easily available at the local Wal-Mart, so I can get them when I need them without having to order them online and wait for them to arrive.

My only gripe is that they're not real rugged, and I have had them bend on one or two occasions, causing me to lose a couple of pretty big fish that got into some gnarly weeds as I was playing them.

So I am actually looking to try some new wide gap or extra wide gap hooks for use in heavily weeded areas, but not have to resort to using flipping hooks unless I am flipping or fishing weed mats.

Suggestions?  (hmm)

I use the Eagle Claw Lazer Mag.

I've had no trouble with them.

@Jig Man Thanks! Didn't even know that website existed. Looks like some decent prices on bulk hooks!

I'm also considering trying these hooks. I like the idea of the keeper for the soft plastics.

I use a tungsten jig head 99% of the time, but that other 1% I use the H2O Xpress super lock since they are $4.99 for a pack of 25.

I also still use the Gammy EWG on occasion.

Thanks @JackJ

A decent price for sure! I did notice that the hook eye is turned sideways when compared to most other hooks. I haven't seen that in a long time!

Captain Hooks is owned by Shorty's Hook Sales.  I use them when I want to buy smaller lots than 1000 which is the only way Shorty's sells.

Ah, OK. I had forgotten all about Shorty's. Haven't heard that name in a long time.  (nope)
