Title: Aluminum Prop as spare?
Post by: JackJ on July 13, 2016, 03:52:03 PM
I need to get a spare prop for my boat.   Would an aluminum be ok as a spare?

Right now I have a 24p Tempest Plus.   Would a 23p Aluminum give me a little better hole shot for the times I have the two high school boys with me?  Or would I not see any difference with it being Aluminum?

an aluminum prop is as useless as teats on a bull  totally worthless   ok for a 14 ft 10 hp pos but thats about it  It will flatten out under any decent load  hole shot is non existant and hit one rock and youre done throw it away.   HOWEVER  in an emergency it will get you home  slowly and way cheaper then SS  you need to go up 2 pitches at least but like I said emergency use only.  dont believe me  go to any marina and look at the aluminum props on the boats  I bet at least 3 out of every 4 is bent or broken or at minimum missing metal

Personally, I would advise against using an aluminum prop as a spare unless it's a small boat with a low HP outboard.

They really are pieces of crap for the most part  ::)

Maybe try finding a good used SS prop instead. It will cost you a little more, but will be well worth it.
