Title: Tow Vehicle Role Call
Post by: Curt on December 29, 2016, 09:00:04 PM
So what do you have for a tow vehicle?

Mine is a 2016 Ford F150 with an Eco Boost V6.

This is my first EcoBoost engine and I have to admit I was very skeptical about its ability to tow my boat as well as the 5 liter V8 in my last truck. But I have been very pleasantly surprised by how much torque and power it has. And even more pleasant is the 2-3 MPG increase I saw with it when towing.

No, it probably wouldn't tow a setup like what @transamz9 has very well, but it does what I need it to do with power to spare  (yes)

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel - I've pulled the Ranger on 1K mile trips with 3 people and gear and it delivered nearly 18MPG with about 1/3 of the trip @ 75MPH. It delivers more torque than the Hemi 5.7L V8 @ a mere 3.0L V6

I used to pull w/ a Duramax, way more truck than required, it delivered over 15MPG pulling an even larger boat, I'll not own a gas powered for towing.

I'll not own a gas powered for towing.

If my boat was heavier or if I made a lot of long trips, I might consider a diesel. But my boat is aluminum and my trips are short. So the gas engine works fine for me

Ha!  I can see Charlie now wheelin up to the boat launch in his hippie van with a doobie behind his ear ready to go fishin. Im still around ya ol goat. Just been busy with work and getting a house and all the bs that goes with it. Ill be about 15 minutes from Logan Martin Lake and have a room waitin on ya if you want to try your hand at some spots again.

My current tower and hopefully will be for a while is a 2014 Ram 2500 4x4 longhorn laramie. And its got the Cummins. Drags my Gboat around great and will spoil you with all the bells and whistles that thing has. Butt cooler and butt warmer is awesome!  Lol. The only thing I want to get for it is the egr delete. Not real worried about making more power or boil the tires off of it. Them things cost too dang much.  I just want it to be as efficient and long lasting as I can make it.

I rate my tow vehicle on how well it pushes snow. If it does the job, towing is a piece of cake. On Friday,  I plowed a surprise 27" of snow.  Forcaste was 6-8 and i had already plowed 6 when I turned in. Acres of parking lot and driveways. On Saturday I dropped the plow and hooked on the boat and drove 1700 miles SOUTH!. It did a great job. 9 1/2 Fisher Extreme V GMC 2500 hd duramax.  Okeechobee in the morning
