Title: 175 ProXS specs
Post by: Jason West on February 18, 2015, 11:42:05 AM
Alright men, need a little help.
Here's my set up.

2008 ProCraft 192 SuperPro (18'6")
Mercury 175 ProXS
23 pitch Tempest Plus prop
63mph @ 5800 rpms
Water pressure 3-5psi @ idle, 12-14psi @ WOT.

The current specs from Mercury say that the WOT rpm range is 5350- 5750, but my owners manual says 5500-6000.

My questions
1. Am I missing something here, or has Mercury just changed the specs?
2. Am I in the danger zone at 5800 rpms?
3. Do I have the wrong prop? Should I go to a 24p or 25p to get rpms down?
4. I was worried about water pressure. Everyone I talk to tells me I need to be around 18psi @ WOT, however      I was recently told that according to the service manual, I am right in the specified range.

I don't push the limits on her every time I'm in it, just want to get it set up for peak performance.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I can't speak for a lot of your questions, but if your owner's manual says 5500 - 6000, I would think that would be correct. And I do know that there is always a little wiggle room when it comes to upper RPM limits.

@Coop Can you help out here??

Try a 24 Fury, you can run them a little lower if need be.  I ran my 175 ProXS at 6,000 and didn't hit the limiter.    The 24 Tempist used to be iffy out of the box, not sure if Merc has made that better or not?  If you try them you may need to try two or three to get "the one".
