Title: Please clean your reels!
Post by: Jimmy RodandReel on January 28, 2015, 08:44:11 PM

Guys and girls......Please have your reels cleaned every year. If you sit down and do them yourself great! If you send them off to have them done by someone else great. But please understand that in order to get the best proformance from your reels, they must be taken care of.
You change the oil in your car/truck every 3-5k right and if you don't the motors toast Correct? Then why are you spending 100-400 per reel and not take care of them. Maintanace is the life of all of todays reels.

I wont go into how many bearings you need, who makes the best reel and why. We can leave that for a new day.

Here's a few pics of a customers reel I cleaned today.
Before #1.

I've seen how many parts are spread out on your work bench when you clean a reel, and there is nothing left but the frame..NO THANKS! I would never get it back together. Too many small parts in there haha. However,  I love feeling how smooth they are after YOU clean and lube them haha. He is right guys, whether you do them yourself or have someone else do them... just get them done.

I will take of them for you.
AND!!!!!!
Please don't listen to these video's going around the interwez's about JUST wiping them down and a drop of oil or two each year.  That just don't cut with todays complex reels.

I send mine in every once in a while for thorough cleaning but do regular maintenance myself.  Getfished and I used the same service in Wichita, KS.  Our guy has passed away and we'll be looking for another one.

What is your regular price for baitcaster cleaning and spinning reel cleaning?

Do you have a web site?

@Jig Man
My prices are very simple. It's 16.00 per reel casting or spinning. This includes complete disassembly of the reel,
Inspection of all parts,
Cleaning bearings,
Lubing as needed,
Reassembly.
All parts are  "As Needed" I have zero mark up on parts. What the part costs me is the price I charge you.
All shipping to and from is paid by the customer.

As far as a website: No I do very little advertising and most of the work I do is by word of mouth. I do have a few folks on this board that I do reel cleaning for if you would like to check some references. Buttlet3119 and n2ratfishing are 2 that I have done a lot of work for.
My turn around time depends a lot on how much/many rods and reels I have for cleaning/repair, I only schedule 4-5 reels per day.
I prefer my work to be quality and not quantity.

He cusses me because I am meticulous about routine maintenance on everything I own except fishing reels.  I don't know where I went wrong with fishing reels?  I use em till they REALLY need cleaned or they're broke.  Jimmysrodandreel can take those old reels and make them better than new.   He can super tune your reels if you like.

I have several people that can do reels.  Jimmy has always done them right.  He doesn't try and up sell me stuff I don't need.    He stood behind his work on a rod I had built six years ago in 2014 when a fore grip came apart.  That wasnt his fault.   I expected to pay something for that repair, it's a time consuming repair.  Nope...he wouldn't have it.

Great customer service, honored to call him and Calvin friends.

I've spoken with @Jimmy RodandReel on the phone and discussed his reel repair/maintenance services.

Based on pictures I've seen, comments that I've heard from others and the conversation he and I had, Jimmy will be getting my reels for servicing too. He seems to know his stuff and do quality work  (y)

You can see pics of Calvins work @ CR Customs on his facebook site.  He cussed my motorcycle for more hours than he wanted but the work haas held up better than I dreamed it would.

Since then I've sent many happy BlueWater LED customers his way.  (y)
