My Own Worst Enemy
« on: July 12, 2016, 10:11:41 AM »
I had a club tourney this past Friday night.

I was my own worst enemy during this one, spending way too much time trying to figure things out, instead of just going fishing and letting the fish tell me what they wanted  (fp)

I fished for 7 hours and ended up with two fish. They were good fish, at 3+ lbs. and almost 4 1/2 lbs., but this particular lake always needs 15+ lbs. to win at night, and I only had slightly under 8 lbs.

I tend to do this sometimes and I always say I won't do it again. Maybe some day I'll learn. Oh well (shrug)

Way too much time trying to figure it out...scratching your head, fishing the wrong type of water for the season??? Please elaborate.
If you're too busy to go fishing you're too busy!!

I know the feeling.  I never could figure out a pattern in mine last Saturday and only managed 4 small fish.
Had a monster come off at the boat that would have won it for me, but it just wasn't meant for me to win that one :)

I did have about a 3lber also come off.   But the other one came up and opened his mouth really wide and just laughed at me.
All those 8"ers seems to make it all the way in  (fp)

I caught a turtle on a spinnerbait too.  That one was fast turtle.

Way too much time trying to figure it out...scratching your head, fishing the wrong type of water for the season??? Please elaborate.

Instead of doing what I know usually works at night, I kept trying to come up with something that would catch bigger fish. I kept changing spots, changing lures, etc.

Had I just put the trolling motor down and covered water with a spinnerbait and buzzbait, I would have caught fish. And the fact that the two fish I did catch were both great quality, I should have let them tell me that I was already doing the right thing.  (fp)

Oh well... another lesson learned
