Your Favorite Knot?
« on: September 16, 2016, 04:28:37 PM »
There's a good discussion going on over at one of my other forums about knots. So I figured I'd bring it over here too.

First, what's your favorite knot? The one you use most of the time without even thinking about it.

And then, what's your favorite knot for joining two lines (if you join two lines)?

I'll go first.

My go-to knot is the improved clinch knot. Hands down my favorite knot for just about everything.

I very rarely use braid, but when I do, the Palomar knot is my go-to for braid.

As for joining two lines, I didn't currently do that, so I have no preference here, although I do remember tying what might have been a uni knot at some point in the distance past. Or maybe it was a blood knot?  (hmm)

Palomar for everything because I like two strands of line through the eyes.

I only use one knot for mono, fluro, and braid.  It is the Pitzen or commonly called 16/20 knot.  I can tie it is just a few seconds with any type of bait that is being tied on (even an A Rig).  I can also tie it on in the winter without having to remove my gloves.

Line to line I've tried most of them.  I like the Alberto's most but I find it to be a PITA to re-tie in the wind which we have most of the time on my favorite lake so I have gone to the double Surgeon's knot when I use a fluro leader but I have mostly gone to just fluro line so I don't have to re-tie.
If you're too busy to go fishing you're too busy!!
