Gizzard Shad Schools out from ledges and drops
When you cannot locate bass on points or drops, look for large suspended bait schools as much a 50 yds. out from the point or drop. If the bait schools are there, the bass will be suspended with them. Usually smaller bass, sometimes in schools, will be to the sides of the bait schools. Large bass will usually be beneath the bait. Large bass are lazy. They let the smaller bass attack the bait and wait for stunned bait to drop to them. I use large grubs for these suspended bass. You can cast past the school, let the lure sink and retrieve it through or below the bait school or vertical jig the lure. Other lures to use are: jigging spoons, short arm spinnerbaits, "little george" or other drop baits.
